Milwaukee-Eight Heritage

The Harley-Davidson® motor company has been designing revolutionary engines for over a century. Beginning with their very first Atmospheric V-Twin, Harley-Davidson® dedicated themselves to create something better, and so the F-Head, and then Flathead engines emerged. Following close on the heels of the Flathead engine was the Knucklehead engine, which laid the foundation for Harley-Davidson®'s modern air cooled V-Twins. The Panhead and Shovelhead engines soon sprung out of the Knucklehead design, and the Shovelhead engine powered the first Electra-Glide® motorcycles on the road, revolutionizing the performance of touring motorcycles. Finally in 1999, the Twin Cam engine was unveiled, and these motors have powered Harley-Davidson® Touring bikes until now. As you can see Harley-Davidson® has worked year after year to make sure that every engine they develop delivers a major push forward in engineering and performance, and now the torch has been passed to the new Milwaukee-Eight.

Milwaukee-Eight Power

One of the first goals Harley-Davidson® had for the Milwaukee-Eight was to engineer a more powerful Touring engine. To accomplish this Harley® went back to the drawing board, utilizing entirely new components to design this eight valve V-Twin engine. This motor is approximately the same weight as its Twin Cam predecessor, but delivers more torque, and thus a better power to weight ratio. The Milwaukee-Eight's big V-Twin power comes in part thanks to the large displacement of these engines. Standard Milwaukee-Eight motors on H-D® touring bikes are 107 cubic inches, while CVO models boast a 114 cu. in. version. For truly heart stopping power, the Milwaukee-Eight can even be upgraded with Screamin' Eagle performance parts to expand the engine out to a whopping 117 cubic inches, so hold on tight!

Milwaukee-Eight Performance

When you're on the freeway power means a lot, but power isn't the only critical element of a touring ride. In order to reduce rider fatigue, improve comfort, and create an overall superior riding experience, Harley-Davidson® designed the Milwaukee-Eight to run cooler, smoother, and more efficiently than any H-D® V-Twin that came before. Even at low speeds you'll notice a big difference in the level of heat coming off of the engine, making those high traffic rides less grueling. The Milwaukee-Eight engine is also rubber mounted, to reduce the vibration of the bike, and improve rider comfort over long periods. Finally the eight valve design offers the opportunity for higher fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions, making this engine a new benchmark for the competition to catch up to!
